We know there is a lot of "Green Washing" of products in the world. Companies who pretend to care just to sell more product. That does not describe us. We are fully committed to our mission, selling beauty products is a means to an end for us.
So, in the spirit of total transparency we track every thing publicly, even posting a picture of every bag of trash we collect. In the "Trash Tracker" below you can find the link to view the full “Trash Tracker” spread sheet below.
We have a long way to go to our goal of removing 1,000,000 pounds of ocean trash, but we are on our way. You can follow along with our progress here, this Trash Tracker is updated when ever we clean up some trash.
Ocean plastic pollution is more than a story about trash. It is also a story about poverty. It’s no coincidence that most of the worlds biggest ocean polluters are poor countries.
Take the Philippines for example where poverty is rampant, and nearly everything is sold in a plastic bag or sachet. Massive multinational corporations saw the millions of poor families as an untapped market for their products. The problem was that they couldn’t afford to buy a large bottles of shampoo, so what did they do? Sell it in small unrecyclable sachets, and many those sachets, 60 billion of them a year end up in the streams and oceans of the Philippines, destroying the environment those same impoverished families rely upon for survival.
Prevention is the best medicine, we will always clean up one pound of ocean bound trash for every item purchases, but we want to do more. We want to give poor families the chance to have a rich fulfilling life, in a clean environment. And we want to help give them and their children the opportunities they only dreamed of.
Our plan is to hire those struggling to find good paying jobs to help us improve their local environments. We will also support local businesses to develop supply chains free from sachets.
We aren’t there yet, but that’s the road map. We hope you’ll support us in reaching our goals!
